Check your credit history

UK credit scores reflect your financial trustworthiness, based on credit history. Lenders rely heavily on your credit score and credit history when they assess your mortgage application.

It is crucial that you check your credit files at all three of the main credit referencing agencies – Experian, Equifax, and Transunion

If your credit record is less than squeaky clean, speak to a mortgage adviser to understand how this might impact your ability to get a mortgage. Do this well in advance of putting any offer on a property.

If you recently relocated to the UK, you may struggle to get a mortgage. Lenders typically prefer applicants to have at least two to three years of UK credit history. A good mortgage adviser should be able to advise you on your options.
